چکیده

Nearest neighbor and instance-based learning techniques typically handle continuous and linear input values well, but often do not handle symbolic input attributes appropriately. The Value Difference Metric (VDM) was designed to find reasonable distance values between symbolic attribute values, but it largely ignores continuous attributes, using discretization to map continuous values into symbolic values. This paper presents two heterogeneous distance metrics, called the Interpolated VDM (IVDM) and Windowed VDM (WVDM), that extend the Value Difference Metric to handle continuous attributes more appropriately. In experiments on 21 data sets the new distance metrics achieves higher classification accuracy in most cases involving continuous attributes.

Some Fixed Point Theorems in Generalized Metric Spaces Endowed with Vector-valued Metrics and Application in Linear and Nonlinear Matrix Equations

Let $mathcal{X}$ be a partially ordered set and $d$ be a generalized metric on $mathcal{X}$. We obtain some results in coupled and coupled coincidence of $g$-monotone functions on $mathcal{X}$, where $g$ is a function from $mathcal{X}$ into itself. Moreover, we show that a nonexpansive mapping on a partially ordered Hilbert space has a fixed point lying in  the unit ball of  the Hilbert space. ...

Improved Heterogeneous Distance Functions

Instance-based learning techniques typically handle continuous and linear input values well, but often do not handle nominal input attributes appropriately. The Value Difference Metric (VDM) was designed to find reasonable distance values between nominal attribute values, but it largely ignores continuous attributes, requiring discretization to map continuous values into nominal values. This pa...

Evaluation of Image Quality Metrics for Color Prints

New technology is continuously proposed in the printing technology, and as a result the need to perform quality assessment is increasing. Subjective assessment of quality is tiresome and expensive, the use of objective methods have therefore become more and more popular. One type of objective assessment that has been subject for extensive research is image quality metrics. However, so far no on...

Objective Image Quality Assessment of Color Prints

Measuring the perceived quality of printed images are important to assess the performance of printers and to evaluate technology advancements. Image quality metrics have been proposed to objectively assess the quality of images, and new metrics are continuously proposed. However, applying these metrics to printed images are not straightforward, since they require a digital input. We present a n...

The Development of Holte's 1R Classifier

The 1R procedure for machine learning is a very simple one that proves surprisingly effective on the standard datasets commonly used for evaluation. This paper describes the method and discusses two areas that can be improved: the way that intervals are formed when discretizing continuously-valued attributes, and the way that missing values are treated. Then we show how the algorithm can be ext...
